Maple leaf

Van de week kwam ik zo blogsurfend een blok tegen dat me zo aansprak!
Soms heb je dat zo :0)
Het is het Maple leaf blok en de quilt die ik ermee gezien heb (sorry, ik weet niet meer bij wie!) was in van die heerlijke herfstkleuren!

This week when I was blogsurfing I came across a block that appealed to me right away!
That sometimes happens :0)
It is the Maple leaf block and the quilt which I saw (sorry, I don't remember where!) was made of lucious autumn colors!

Nu heb ik zelf laatst een aantal blauwe en bruine lapjes gekocht en ik zag het meteen voor me, hoe die in deze quilt gingen komen :-)

I bought a few blue and brown fabrics the other day and I could see them in this quilt :-)

Toen begon het uitwerken van het patroon en jullie weten: ik ben een handwerkster...

Deze quilt echter ben ik op de naaimachine aan het maken! Ja, echt waar :0)

Kijk, het bewijs:

 

Then I had to sort out the pattern and you all know: I am a hand quilter...

This one however, I am making on my sewing machine! Yes, really I am :0)

Het patroon heb ik gevonden op http://quilting.about.com/. Een handige site met van alles en nog wat er op!

Vooral het steeltje...dat stelde mij toch wel voor een paar vragen.

Via google kwam ik dus op die site, erg handig! Compleet patroon met alle afmetingen en voor allerlei blokken duidelijke uitleg :-)

Especially the stem...that raised a few questions.

So, via google I came to that site! Complete patterns with the measures and clear instructions on how to make them the easiest way :-)

Ik las er een tip, die waarschijnlijk velen van jullie erg bekend en veel gebruikt in de oren klinkt, maar ik wist niet dat het zo goed werkte...

 

De genaaide delen nog niet openvouwen, maar meteen de naad stoomstrijken, zodat de naad kan settelen. Daarna openvouwen en enkel door druk en hete stoom (niet heen en weer zagen) open strijken en dan is het een heel mooi precies goed van formaat blokje :0)

 

I read a tip there, and most of you will probably know it well, but I didn't quit...

 

The parts you have sewn have to be ironed first before opening it up, so the seam can settle. Then open en press only by pressure and heat (not shovelling the iron around) and you end up with a very neat and precise block :0)

 

Heerlijk, zo'n leuk nieuw blok ( 9"X 9" )!

Kan ik weer fijn met nieuwe lapjes en kleurtjes spelen :0) Joepie!!

 

Love it, a fun new block ( 9"x 9")!

Now I get to play with new colors and fabrics :0) Yeah!!

 

 



Long time no blog ;0)

Onze heerlijke vakantie van drie weken in Zuid-Frankrijk zijn alweer twee weken achter de rug...wat vliegt de tijd!

Our fabulous three week holiday in the south of France has been two weeks ago...how time flies!

Op vakantie inderdaad weinig steekjes gedaan ;0) hoe verrassend haha! Dit kwam mede omdat ik alles had ingepakt...behalve garen, lekker handig. En ja, dat is ook daar gewoon te koop, maar dan moet je er wel aan denken als je in de enorme Intermarché aldaar ronddwaalt, zoekend naar koffiefilters die ze om en vage reden NIET bij de koffie stallen maar ergens heul anders, bij de barbecue producten...
Het blijft een spannende onderneming in La douce France!

On holiday I didn't make any stitches ;0) what a surprise haha! This was also due to the fact that I had packed everything...except thread, how silly is that. And yes, you can buy it in the stores over there as well but then you must remember to search for it while wandering through the huge Intermarché searching for coffeefilters, which for some reason aren't placed by the coffee, no, it is placed somewhere else alongside the barbecue products...
It is Always such an exciting trip in la douce France!

Eenmaal thuis heb ik eerst weer de kerst lap erbij gepakt! het was hier warm, dus ja, dan denk je daar als eerste aan ;)

Once back home i took on my Christmas piece! It was very hot here, so yes, it is the first thing one thinks about ;)

Wat is zelf zo ontzettend grappig vond, was dat ik al zoekende naar zo'n leuk Frans quiltboekje een editie van Magic Patch vond...terug op de camping las ik dat het helemaal geweid was aan Jeanneke! Een Nederlandse quiltster, geïnterviewd voor een Frans blad haha!
Het was erg goed voor mijn Frans :0) Ik begreep het meeste nog wat er in stond *trots*

One thing I myself thought was very funny, was when I was searching for one of the cute French quilt magazines I found the Magic Patch, which was entirely devoted to Jeanneke! A Dutch quilter being interviewed for a French magazine haha!
I must say: it was very good for my French :0) I understood most of what I read *proud*

Nu dus alweer twee weken thuis, maar het is nog volop vakantie, dus drukte met spelende kinderen en dergelijke, heerlijk!
nog 1 week en dan mag hij weer naar school...iets zegt me dat ik dan pas weer echt aan het patchen kan gaan :0)

Two weeks home already now, but it is still holiday, so it is quit busy with playing kids and all, love it!
One week to go before he may attend school again...a little bird tells me that that will be the moment when I can get any real patching done :0)

Tijdens de zomer die maar geen zomer lijkt te willen zijn...

During the summer that doesn't seem to want to be summer...

ben ik maar weer een nieuw project gestart!
En nee, ik had er vast nog niet voldoende...Ik had er immers één af :0) volkomen terecht dus, dat ik er een nieuw project bij heb gezocht!

I started yet another project!
And no, I probably don't have enough going on...I had finished one :0) completely legal to start a new project, I think!

Nu ben ik iemand die graag projecten in leuke dozen, manden, dienbladen en wat al niet meer opbergt...
Voor dit nieuwe project heb ik maar weer een kunststof naaidoos in gebruik genomen. Nu ben ik absoluut geen fan van plastic en kunststof, maar ja, het heeft helaas ook voordelen:
het is stevig,
er zitten twee lagen in,
een goed deksel MET handvat...
Maar mijn hemel: wat zijn die dingen LELIJK!!

Laat mij daar nu gisteren ineens iets op gevonden te hebben :0)
Zoals velen van ons heb ook ik een voorraad aan materialen voor ditjes en datjes. Zo ook dubbelzijdig plak-aslan. En een flinke stapel gezellig kerstpapier (ooit gekocht voor het scrapbooken, wat ik nauwelijks heb gedaan, omdat alle mooie foto's zo makkelijk op de pc staan en ik het zo'n werk altijd vind om ze te sorteren en op stick te zetten en dan te laten afdrukken en...nou ja, het is al duidelijk denk ik LOL)
Dus ik keek van doos, naar aslan, naar kerstpapier en terug ;0)
Malletjes van kerstvoorwerpen erbij, overtrekken en plakken maar!
AL veel, veel beter nu :0)
Wat kun je daar blij van worden, zeg! Na de zomer ga ik ook mijn andere kunststof naaidoos in een thema pimpen...nu al zin in haha!

Well, I am a person who loves to store projects in cute boxes, baskets, trays and just about every other storage object...
For this new project I took out one of my old plastic sewingboxes.  I am so NOT a fan of plastics, but, unfortunately, it does have some advantages:
it's sturdy,
it's got two layers,
a good lid WITH a grip...
But heavens me: they are so UGLY!!!

But it hit me yesterday :0)
Like a lot of us I too have a stash of materials for all sorts of things. I have found my double-sided sticky plastic and a big pile of fun christmaspapers (once bought for scrapbooking, but I never really gotten into that, since all the pictures are available on the pc and i don't feel like sorting them and then putting them on a usb and then have them printed and...well, I think you got the picture LOL)
So I took a good look at the sewingbox, then the sticky plastic, the christmaspaper and back ;0)
Templates of Christmas stuff out of another box, drew them on the sticky plastic and then they were put on the box!
It looks so much better already :0)
Happy days! When summer is over I am going to pull out my other plastic box and pimp it in a theme...can't wait already haha!

Hm, op zijn koppie...nou ja, het idee is hetzelfde :0)
De octablom uit de quilt&zo van vorig jaar. De omnibus lag weer bij de boekhandel, ik helemaal blij, leuke nieuwe dingen om te bekijken!
Ik ga hem in kerststofjes maken, helemaal scrappy :0)

Hm, it's upside down...well it is still the same design :0)
It is the Octaflower which was featured in the magazine Quilt & zo of last year. It was presented in a package of three mags, so I was very happy, a lot of new stuff to look at!
I am going to use Christmas fabrics, all scrappy :0) 

En net als voorgaande jaren zou ik de vingerhoedjes mee op vakantie nemen...maar die worden een beetje onhandig in vervoer, eigenlijk :0(
Omdat er nu al zoveel verschillende hoedjes klaar liggen om een zo scrappy mogelijk uiterlijk te krijgen, heb ik telkens heel veel ruimte nodig om ze allemaal uit te stallen...en dat vind ik veel te veel gedoe op vakantie!

And like last year I was planning to take the timbles-quilt with me on holiday...but it has gotten to much to take with me :0(
Because I now have so many different timbles ready cut, I need a lot of room to display them when I am working on it...and that's not what I want during my holiday!

Dus...de klosjes gaan mee :0)
Die heb ik allemaal al voorgeknipt en dan gaan ze in de handige oprol-rol zodat ze bij elkaar blijven en dat is veel makkelijker op vakantie!
Niet dat ik zeker weet of ik ook maar één steek zal zetten, maar beter mee en niet gedaan, dan niet mee en balen dat ik het niet heb!

So...the spools are coming with :0)
I have already cut them and then they will be put in my roll-it-up-roll to keep together and that's way better for holiday!
Not that I know for sure that I will stitch even one stitch but I rather have it with me and not do anything with it, than to not have it with me and regretting it!

Maar vakantie duurt nog even :0)

But holiday isn't here yet :0)

Ik ga als de brandweer!

Alweer een projectje af :0)
Dit keer het quiltje Jeannet, van de Quilt Ster. Ook deze was heel leuk om te doen!

Een paar kleine details...

En waar ermee heen te gaan?
Tja, ik heb hem door de hele kamer en keuken verplaatst...maar het is het tafeltje in de hal geworden :0)

And where to put it?
Well, I dragged it through the entire living room and kitchen...but it ended up in the hallway :0)

En daar zal hij eerst blijven liggen! Tot ik weer denk dat hij ergens anders ook zo leuk ligt...dat kan morgen zijn...of volgende maand haha!

And here it will stay! Or at least until I find some place where it will look just as cute...which could be tomorrow...or next month haha!

Voorlopig was dit het laatste project wat in de buurt van AF was, dus de komende zomer kan ik er weer flink tegen aan, want er liggen natuurlijk nog genoeg projecten te lonken in mijn werkkamer ;0)
En zuslief had een leuk project bedacht waar we met zijn drietjes aan zullen werken, daar moet ook het nodige voor gebeuren, maar daarover meer...na de zomer!

Zo, tijd om te gaan kijken welk project nu mijn onverdeelde aandacht krijgt, want al die affo's smaken naar meer...veel meer :0)
De dansende dames willen meer aankleding...
De vingerhoedjes gaan weer mee op vakantie...
De klosjes van geruilde lapjes worden tussendoor gedaan...
En zoveel nieuwe leuke dingen gezien...

Oh het wordt nog een drukke zomer!

For now, these were the projects closest to finishing, so for the summer I can work hard on my other projects...because I have enough lying around ;0)
And Sis had a fun idea to work on with the three of us, which requires a bit of work...but that's for showing and telling when the summer is done!

Well, time to check out which project will get my attention now, because all those finishes taste like more...way more :0)
The dancing dollies would like some decorations...
The timbles will come on holiday...
The spools are being sewn between things...
And I have seen so many nice and new projects...

Oh it is going to be a busy summer!

HET VERHAAL VAN...

THE STORY OF...

Een bloementuin.
ooit (inmiddels lang geleden!) gezien in de Vignette (de allereerste, jaja) en meteen verkocht :0)
gek ben ik op hexagonnen, je kunt er zoveel mee doen. Altijd werk ik op dezelfde manier met hexjes: een kartonnen malletje, plastic malletje om de stoffen met naadtoeslag op de stof over te nemen, rond het kartonnen malletje vouwen en vastzetten met gekleurde (ja, dit is heel belangrijk: je wordt veel blijer van gekleurde) paperclips en vastzetten met een snelle steek via de hoekjes.
Zo ook deze hexjes...

A flowergarden.
One day (it has been quit a while back now) I had seen it in the very first Vignette and I was sold immediately :0).
I simply love hexagons, there are so many things you can do with these. I Always work the same way when making hexagons: a template of cardboard (not too thick), a plastic template for drawing the shape with a bit extra onto the fabric, fold the fabric around the cardboard template and fixating it with colourful ( yes, this is very important: you get way happier from colourful) paperclips and sewing it around with a quick stitch over the corners.
And I did these ones the same way...

Voor deze bloementuin werden het veel bloemen, dus ook heel veel hexjes!

For this flowergarden it became a lot of flowers, so it also were a lot of hexagons!

In 2011 ben ik ermee begonnen.
Heel enthousiast, maar toen heb ik het project in de zomermaanden neergelegd...om er pas veel later weer mee verder te gaan!

In 2011 I started this quilt.
Very enthousiasticly, but I put the project aside for the summer...only to pick it back up way later!

De losse bloemen werden aan elkaar genaaid, wat helemaal niet op leek te schieten! Ik denk dat dat de reden was, dat ik er zo lang niet mee bezig wilde: telkens hetzelfde doen en er zo langzaam pas iets van resultaat van zien...

The single flowers were sewn together, but it just felt like it didn't move forward! I think that that was the main reason why I didn't feel like picking it back up: doing the same thing over and over again and still being so far away from finishing it...

 

Maar ik pakte het weer op en zette mijn verstand op nul, want ja: het is wel een heul leuk project!!!
Bloem na bloem begon ik weer aan te zetten (volgens de Vignette moest je telkens blokken van vier bloemen in elkaar naaien en dan in een rij naaien, maar dat handigde mij to-taal niet!) en omdat ik de methode veranderde werkte het ineens vele malen prettiger...en sneller ;0)

But I did pick it back up and just got on with it, because, well: it was such a fun and lovely project!!!
Flower after flower I put on ( according to the Vignette magazine you had to make blocks of four flowers and put them into rows, but that just wasn't working for me!) and because I changed the method of working it just went on much more pleasant...and faster ;0)

De bloemen maakte ik lekker voor de tv :0)
Eerst kijkend naar As the world turns ( jemig, wat baalde ik dat die soap ophield :-( , bah!) en later terwijl ik keek naar de BBC Escape to the country. Stapels bloemen maakte ik haha!

En de tuin groeide...en groeide...en leuk dat ie werd! En meer zin ik kreeg om hem af te maken!!

And the garden grew...and grew...and pretty it became! And the more I wanted to get it finished!

 

En eigenlijk een beetje onverwacht...was ik zover dat hij gedubbeld kon worden...

And, really it was a bit unexpected...the time had come it was ready for the backing and filling...

Het was zo'n beetje de eerste keer dat ik zelf de voorkant zag LOL!

It was pretty much the very first time I myself saw the front of it LOL!

Het knopen kon beginnen! En ook dat kostte nog best veel tijd...en ruimte, want oh jee, wat was het een joekel geworden: 240 bij 220 cm!!! WAUW!

The knotting could begin! And that took a lot of time...and space, because, oh dear, it had become an enormous piece: 240 by 220 cm!!! WOW!

Meters binding werden er genaaid. Stof werd erbij gekocht, want ik had het plan om twee randen in punten te laten...maar dat was niet te doen, helaas!

Metres of binding were sewn. Fabric was bought, because I had the intention of making two sides in points...but that wasn't do-able, unfortunately!

Dus...de binding toch er maar recht op en knippen maar!

So...the binding was put on in a straight line!

En toen...EINDELIJK...kon het omnaaien van de binding beginnen...
Ook wel bekend als: de laatste momenten voor het af zijn van de quilt :0)
Gewoon, weer lekker voor de TV met die zware en warme deken gezellig over mijn voeten, betrekkelijk onhandelbaar in de handen haha!

And then...FINALLY...I could start the turning and sewing of the binding...
Also known as: the finishing of the quilt :0)
Nicely placed in front of the TV with the warm and heavy quilt over my feet, cozy, but really inept to work with by hand haha!

De lieve viervoeter Fester hielp ook niet echt...ze was de quilt al fijn aan het testen nog voor hij helemaal af was ;0)

The sweet cat Fester wasn't helping also...she was already test-driving the quilt before it was completely finished ;0)

De hoekjes waren verdraaid lastig, omdat ik na het aanzetten van de twee lange kanten binding nog de manier van binding voor de kortere kanten verandert heb...maar ook dat is gelukt naar tevredenheid :0)

The corners were pretty nasty, because I had already put on the long sides of binding before I changed the shorter sides...but I pulled it of, much to my own satisfaction :0)

Gisteren, zaterdag 8 juni 2013, was hij ineens helemaal af...

yesterday, saturday june 8th, it was all of a sudden all finished...

En het allermooiste?!
Het maakt niet uit welk jaargetijde het is: Deze tuin is altijd op zijn aller,allermooist :0)!!!!!

I am going to enjoy this flowergarden for years to come!!!
And the best part?!
No matter what season it is, this garden will Always be at its very, very best :0)!!!!

Yeah! A real Finished Project!!

Na enig overleg met Moeder en Zus...

After some debat with Mother and Sister...

Heb ik de rits erin gezet ( eerste keer...)

I put in the zipper ( first time ever...)

Randen eraan van de juiste stof van de Hoot-serie (die met de schattige uiltjes!) En de uiteinden...
met een draad rondom geregen, aangetrokken en vastgezet. Daarna met freezerpaper een cirkel gemaakt, die op de verkeerde kant van de stof gestreken, rondom geregen, freezerpaper er weer uit, op de uiteinden spelden en met heel veel beleid op de uiteinden naaien...met de naaimachine!

Borders around from de Hoot-serie fabric ( with the adorable owls!) To finish it all off, I had to bring the outside edges together with thread and secured it. Then I made two circles on freezerpaper, ironed it onto the wrong side of the fabric, pulled it around with a thread, took the freezerpaper out again, basted it on the edges and sewn it with a whole lot of paying attention onto the outside edges...with my sewingmachine!

Ik ben trots!

I am proud!

Ondanks het natte weer...

Despite the wet wether...

of misschien juist dankzij ;0)
groeit de Bloementuin zo goed, dat hij zijn voltooiing nadert!

Or perhaps just because ;0)
grows the Flowergarden so well, that he is approaching his completion!

Het was een zwaar werkje om hem onder/bij mijn naaimachine te krijgen en daarvoor moest de naaimachine eerst van zijn vaste plek van zolder af en naar beneden naar de keukentafel...anders kon het gewoon niet...

It was quit the work to get him through/near my sewingmachine and in order to make THAT happen I had to take my sewingmachine from its usual spot on the second floor down to the kitchentable...otherwise it just could not be done...

Het gewicht van de quilt zorgde ervoor dat ik flink hard moest werken om te voorkomen dat hij telkens scheef wegtrok! Maar na zoveel werk, bloed, zweet en tranen ( au die gemene naalden LOL) is hij nu weer een stukje dichterbij AF!!
Hoera voor mij :0)!

Through the weight of the quilt I had to make a real effort  to keep it from pulling away! But after all that hard work, blood, sweat and tears ( au those mean needles LOL) he is now a bit closer to being DONE!!
Yeah for me :0)!

De speciaal samengestelde binding! Van allemaal lappies die ook in de Bloementuin groeien :0). Ik heb de binding wel breder gemaakt dan anders: 3" in plaats van de gebruikelijke 2,5". Dit was wel nodig vanwege de dikke vulling!

The binding custom-made! From all sorts of fabrics that are growing in the Flowergarden :0). I did make the binding a bit wider than usual: 3"in stead of the more common 2,5". This was necessary because of the thick filling!

Maar het moeilijkste moet nog komen...slik...

But the hardest part is yet to come...breaking out in sweat...

Ook dat gaat goed komen!

That will come to a good ending as well!
